5 Essential Oils for Winter Care
It's Cold Outside!
With the cold winter season, it is imperative to protect oneself to make it through the season. I decided to pick 5 essential oils that will provide great benefit this winter. Although, you may not be living in cold temperature climates which is even less likely due to the rising temperature effects we have been experienced in the recent years. These essential oils are perfect for this season.
- Lavender Essential Oil is perfect for this season! Actually, this essential oil is perfect for any and every season and I would recommend starting with this oil if you are a beginner. It has so many properties that will benefit you that I cannot write them all. Lavender has anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and anti-depressant properties. A few of my favorites uses for Lavender in the winter season is for skin protection and hair moisture. Lavender is great for treating skin conditions like psoriasis and inflammation as well as reducing the appearance of burns, stretch marks, and scars by encouraging cell regeneration. The added benefit is that is smells wonderful and helps the mind and body relax and release stress.
- Peppermint Essential Oil is a great oil for this season especially if you have cabin fever. With such cold temperatures, it becomes hard to leave the comfort of your heated home. Peppermint oil works quickly to cool the body down. Don't use too much or your will be freezing; I have learned this through personal use. ;) The active ingredient menthol is responsible for relieving tension headaches and stress. This also increases alertness, stamina, and blood circulation. For this reason, you should avoid using this oil before bedtime unless you plan to counteract this oil with an oil made for insomnia which would defeat the whole purpose, guys! Other properties related to Peppermint Oil include appetite reduction and immune system stimulation. For instance, if you suffer for sinus allergies, it can help relieve sinus pressure by draining the fluid to eliminate the pain and stuffiness associated.
- Citrus Essential Oils are actually a category, not an individual oil. Citrus oils include Lemon, Orange (Sweet), Tangerine, Lime, and Grapefruit. I am particularly selecting lemon and orange essential oils for topic of discussion. Oftentimes, citrus oils are overlooked but they have great properties. What I personally like most about sweet orange oil is the effect it has on our skin. It will brighten your sluggish winter skin with continual use as well as the others. It helps with flatulence and slow indigestion too. I can go on and on about the various benefits of these citrus fruits. Lemon has amazing detoxifying effects, in case that is needed from the egg nog overload or even this upcoming Superbowl weekend. These citrus oils also provide great stress relief.
- Clove Essential Oil is great for this season and smells like winter to me too! Mixing Clove, Orange, Cinnamon, and Cardamom together make an unbelievably warm winter scent reminding you of everything warm and nice about this season. Whether you are getting ready for a large holiday party or you are looking for the perfect ingredient to spice up a dessert, clove is your friend. Clove is also great for winter bones or what the older people call "the arthritis" assisting with sprains, strains, and even toothache relief. It is also provides great oral care and the ingredient of many organic toothpastes.
- Frankincense Essential Oil, oh how can we forget to include this oil during the winter season. Frankincense dates far back to ancient times especially at this time since the three kings brought this oil along with myrrh and gold in order to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Frankincense is very dear to my heart because it has amazing anti-carcinogenic effects which are the pathogens that invade normal cells to become cancer cells. Frankincense was imperative in my dog's holistic cancer treatment of mast cell tumors.
Hope you all are able to stay warm and protected this winter! Stay tuned for more essential oil advice. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to share them below.
